ACCESSING LIBRARY BOOKS

Lending Policy
Students and Members are generally entitled to borrow FOUR books for a period of two weeks. A longer loan period is available to those living at a distance to allow for postage. Library staff will mail books and other materials to students and members who are unable to make a personal visit. Recipients of mailed books are responsible for return postage if required.

There are also a number of books in the Library which have shorter loan periods such as one week or overnight because they are in constant demand.

THE JOURNAL COLLECTION, CLOSED RESERVE and the REFERENCE COLLECTION are not for loan.

All books and other borrowable material must be checked out by Library staff at the Circulation Desk before leaving. You can now perform a catalog search online.

A dump trolley is provided for items being returned to the Library. This is located on the ground floor in the Circulation Area as you enter the Library. All material for return to the Library should be placed in this receptacle by the due date. An after hours return chute is also available at the front of the building. Journals and other items not being borrowed should be left on the trolley near the photocopiers.

A wide range of books, conference papers and reports also exist, reflecting both the specialised and diversified nature of courses offered at the College.Other material concerned with management, education and professional issues is also available.

An Historical Collection of outdated textbooks on nursing practice and procedure is held in the College archives. Access to this special collection is by appointment and available to legitimate researchers only. Within the Library, a collection of hospital histories and books on the history of nursing are on open access.

A CLOSED RESERVE section exists to house books which are usually in high-demand such as recommended course textbooks. These books remain in Closed Reserve from Monday to Friday.

On Saturdays only, material from Closed Reserve may be borrowed after 12 noon but must be returned by 9.00am the following Monday.
