Members Communication Strategy

SHAREHOLDER (MEMBERS) COMMUNICATION STRATEGY

Strategy

The Directors of The College of Nursing (“CON”) recognise the importance of forthright communication and in order to prosper and achieve growth, it must (among other things) earn the trust of employees, customers, suppliers, communities and members by being clear in its communications and consistently deliver on its commitments.

Electronic communication

The CON website (www.nursing.edu.au) is an important part of the College’s communication arrangements. The CON includes on its website a range of information relevant to members and others concerning the operation of the College. This includes:

  • copies of all announcements and media releases
  • copies of annual reports including audited financial reports
  • information related to general meetings, including the agenda and the President’s report;  and,
  • professional updates.

The CON website provides members the opportunity to register to receive by e-mail the “It pays to know” e-bulletin addressing the latest and most up to date College news and information.

Print-based communication

In addition to the CON website and e-bulletin described above, the CON provides members with print-based material to ensure that those individuals who are unable to access electronic communications are not disadvantaged. These include:

  • nursing.aust the Official Journal of The College of Nursing.
  • Print-based copies of the Annual Report (on request).
  • Annual election and General meeting communications.
  • Invitations and official communication from the College Board and Executive.
  • Information on Professional and Educational Events/Courses that may be of interest to our members.

Information for General Meetings

In preparing notices of meetings and related explanatory information, The College of Nursing aims to provide all information that is relevant to members when making a decision on the matter to be voted on. Not only should the information be relevant, the CON considers the information must be presented in a clear and concise format.

Other information

In certain circumstances, the CON will ensure that members can obtain additional information where members may have particular questions on specific matters, such as significant proposals to be voted on by members. This will usually involve the CON making available telephone ‘helplines’ and e-mail services for frequently asked questions, to ensure that members can obtain all relevant information to assist them in exercising their rights as members.

Corporate Governance information

The Directors on The College Board are elected by the membership. These Directors are the major links between members and The College in terms of communicating between the two areas.
The major issues and decisions are reported in the Annual Report by the Board President and the Executive Director who is also a Board Director.
The minutes of the Board are available for scrutiny within The College upon request approved by the Board.
