This program of study is designed for enrolled nurses who are seeking to gain a nationally recognised qualification in their specialty area of practice. The advanced diploma (HLT61107) consists of three modules and is conducted part-time over 12 months.
Participants are required to successfully complete two core modules prior to commencing the specialty elective module.
Module 1 (core) – The theme of this 125 hour module is: assess clients and manage client care
Module 2 (core) – The theme of this 125 hour module is: apply research skills within a contemporary health environment
Module 3 (elective) – Participants undertake one 150 hour specialty elective. Specialty electives offered in 2010 are:
- Critical care nursing – themes include respiratory, cardiovascular and first line emergency nursing
- Mental health nursing – themes include contemporary mental health care, case management, self harm and suicide
- Nursing in aged care – themes include the contemporary aged care environment, the domiciliary health care environment and loss and grief
- Perioperative nursing – themes include practice in the perioperative environment and infection control

Participants are required to attend on-campus study blocks and undertake self-directed learning at a distance. Tutorial and on-line support is available.
Admission criteria
All applicants are required to:
- have current enrolment, with medication endorsement
- hold a Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled/Division 2 nursing) or equivalent
- be employed in or have authorised access to, a health care facility that can provide the learning experiences necessary to achieve the course outcomes
- complete all sections of the application form and submit required documents
Course fee: $3000.00
This fee includes a $300.00 non-refundable application fee and a balance of $2700. Applicants may enroll into individual modules. The fee for each module is $1050.
Note: module 1 and module 2 must be completed to be eligible to commence module 3.
