Registered Training Organisation (RTO) Courses for Registered Nurses
There are two courses for registered nurses under our RTO:
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment:
The College of Nursing also offers a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE), which has been contextualised for health care professionals, or for anyone wishing to complete a Training and Assessment credential recognises by the VET sector. It is delivered face-to-face and by distance education.
Assessment of Competence Program:
The College’s Assessment of Competence program provides training for overseas-qualified nurses and those returning to practice. Enrolment in this program requires a letter of referral from The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). The program consists of a four week on-campus component, undertaken at the College in Burwood, NSW and a four week clinical placement component.
The Assessment of Competence program is designed for Australian registered and enrolled nurses who have not practiced within the profession for a period of more than five years and wish to update their nursing and skills, knowledge and competency in order to return to the workforce. This program is a Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) approved pathway for internationally-qualified nurses to achieve the level of competency and skills that is required for registration as a nurse by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Participants are oriented to contemporary nursing practice in Australia. The program builds upon participant’s previous knowledge, skills and experience to prepare them to demonstrate safe practice at the entry-to-practice level according to the relevant Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) competency standards.
The program consists of a theoretical component of 150 hours, comprised of classroom sessions, clinical skills practice and self-directed learning. A further 150 hours of professional experience placement* is undertaken at various metropolitan and regional participating hospitals.
All of our RTO courses are delivered with the support of CNnect, the College’s electronic learning platform.
As many of you have busy lives with pre-planned schedules and rosters, we have included information on how much time you will require for face-to-face training and, where required, clinical placement.
