Scholarship applications for 2009

In collaboration with our industry partners and professional colleagues the College is pleased to offer the following scholarships and awards in 2009.

Recipients of the grants will be announced in November and presentations will take place at the annual Oration in November.
Scholarships offered in 2009 include MBF, BARD, “Ollie” Nurse Practitioner and the College-Consortium Fund.

Scholarships administered by the College Of Nursing


The MBF Foundation Nursing Scholarships – $42,000 total value
These scholarships provide a registered nurse employed within the private hospital sector in Australia an opportunity to gain a post graduate qualification via a course offered by The College of Nursing. Six scholarships of up to $7,000 each are offered this year. Graduate Certificate courses are outlined in the Graduate Certificate handbook, or on the College website.

The BARD Scholarship
BARD Australia Pty Ltd develops, manufactures and supplies healthcare products for vascular, urology and oncology specialties. In collaboration with the College, BARD offers registered nurses a scholarship for the purpose of fostering continued clinical excellence in the use of central venous access devices. Scholarship to the value of $3,000

The Jo Wattleworth Scholarship - $2,000
The Jo Wattleworth Scholarship is available to undergraduate students undertaking a university course who are current student members of the College. The scholarship is to be used to support the student in their studies. The applicant must produce an essay, learning contract or portfolio of work in which the significance of the psychosocial or humanistic aspects of nursing are featured. This scholarship is offered by Jo Melville, a Fellow of The College of Nursing.

The ‘Ollie’ Nurse Practitioner Scholarship - $5,000
In collaboration with The College of Nursing, the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) is pleased to offer a scholarship to an authorised or endorsed nurse practitioner for the purpose of growing the body of knowledge on the nurse practitioner role in Australia. The scholarship is named in memory of Olwyn Johnston who was appointed as the first practicing nurse practitioner in New South Wales and Australia in 2001. Olwyn died in 2006 but her life contribution to remote nursing will be remembered by her radio signal “by Golly… it’s Ollie”.

Other Scholarships


Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation Inc Nursing Scholarships for Registered Nurses studying the Chemotherapy and Other Systemic Treatments in Cancer Care or Haematology and Haemopoietic Cell Transplantation course by distance education or part time at The College of Nursing. The grant application for this scholarship is attached.

The Maylean Jessie Cordia Memorial Scholarship - $2,000
In collaboration with The Prince Henry Hospital Trained Nurses Association Incorporated, this scholarship offers a registered or enrolled nurse an opportunity for a member of the College of Nursing to further his or her professional development in a chosen specialty area of nursing to undertake further education.

The College Consortium Fund – up to $30,000
A research grant of up to $30,000 is available to registered nurses and midwives to conduct a research project that aims to improve access, equity, quality and outcomes in healthcare. Applications from research collectives and multidisciplinary groups are encouraged.
