A world’s best practice approach to organ and tissue donation for transplantation
On 2 July 2008 the Australian Government announced a total Commonwealth funding package of $151.1 million, including new funding of $136.4 million over four years, for measures to significantly improve Australians’ access to life saving organ transplants.
Don’t turn a night out into a nightmare
The campaign’s primary target audiences are teenagers aged 15-17 and young adults aged 18-25 years.
Evidence shows that a high proportion of the alcohol consumed by both adolescent and young adult drinkers is at risky and high risk levels. For these reasons, 15-17 year olds and 18-25 year olds represent important target audiences for a campaign targeting the harms associated with binge drinking.
The secondary target audience is parents of 13-17 year olds. While many parents believe they cannot influence their teenagers’ drinking, teenagers look to their parents to provide guidance and set boundaries of acceptable behaviour with respect to drinking alcohol.
$3 Million Funding Support
for Homeless Older Australians
The Acting Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Minister for Ageing, Justine Elliot today (January 8 at 9.30am) announced a $3 million grant to Wintringham, a Melbourne-based organisation that provides affordable housing and support services to frail, elderly homeless people.

The current costs of retrieval and hospital care associated with rural and remote road crashes in northern Queensland represent a considerable economic burden, according to a study in the latest Medical Journal of Australia.

To coincide with the peak 'back to school' asthma period, the National Asthma Council Australia will host a special Rural Health Education Foundation satellite broadcast program on January 27, 2009, funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Immunisation (Revised) (75 hours)
This course is designed for registered nurses working in health areas where administration of immunisation is part of their role. It is based on the National guidelines for immunisation education for registered nurses. Content includes the theoretical foundation of immunisation, the immune system and vaccination, epidemiology and vaccine preventable diseases, myths and realities of immunisation, legal aspects, and adverse events following immunisation. Men’s Health (150 hours)
This subject examines the historical, social, economic and cultural influences on men’s health. Themes explored include the epidemiology of men’s health and the historical events and cultural context that have shaped men and their roles in contemporary society. Students analyse popular stereotypes and examine their own values and attitudes in relation to these stereotypes. Students examine the effects of men’s lifespan transitions and the physical, emotional and psychological development of men in relationship to health issues. The last two themes examine health promotion, in particular, communication and men, and capacity building. Throughout the subject policies, legislation and service provision models that impact on men’s health are examined. For more information, please click here.
